State-owned power utility Eskom has invited bids for the construction of the Borutho–Witkop portion of the 400 kV transmission lines that form part of the Medupi power station integration project.

The Medupi power station integration project was part of the Eskom investment support project, for which the World Bank had provided $3.75-billion in financing and, therefore, bidding would be conducted through bidding procedures specified by the bank, and would be open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in World Bank guidelines.

The scope of the work to be undertaken included a line survey, tower foundations, the supply, assembly and erection of structural steel towers and the installation of all hardware and insulators.

The contract would also include stringing and regulation, access roads and bush clearing, fall arrest systems, the construction of an underpass and environmental rehabilitation works.

Bidding documents would be available from September 5, with bidding closing on October 21.
