Energy Institute announces shortlist for energy awards competition

The Energy Institute Awards cover the depth and breadth of the global energy sector, and recognise the important contribution the energy industry makes to society.

Over 130 entries were received to this year’s competition. The judging panel, made up of senior industry representatives, has shortlisted the submissions as follows:

Communication Award
·        BE Beijing, DECC and China Energy Research Institute for its China 2050 calculator

·        The Co-operative Group for ‘spreading the energy saving message to 60,000 colleagues’

·        National Grid for their stakeholder consultation programme

·        Oil and Gas UK for its Piper 25 conference

·        Shell Exploration and Production for ‘You are what you do, you reap what you sow’

·        TOTAL E&P UK for Elgin G4 crisis communications


Community Initiative Award sponsored by Nexen
·        Addax Petroleum for youth empowerment through vocational training

·        Bryson Energy for its oil brokering pilot scheme

·        London Borough of Islington for Bunhill Heat and Power – energising a community

·        NEA and E.ON for Community Energy Fit (CEF)

·        School of Engineering, Warwick University for electrification of rural communities in western Uganda: information power

·        Sustainable Development for All – Kenya for ‘Use solar, save lives’


Energy Excellence Award sponsored by Ninox
·        BBOXX for launching ‘The solar revolution’

·        The Co-operative Group for saving the Co-operative £100m and reducing CO2 emissions by 40% since 2006

·        Dubai Aluminium for its GTX cogeneration plant

·        Greenheart Energy for the SolaPac

·        Nanergy Fuel Cells for its platinum-free direct-liquid fuel cells

·        SAVORTEX for development and implementation of sustainable washroom technology for hand dryers


Environment Award
·        The American University in Cairo for SLI-Des (Sustainable, Liveable, Interactive Design)

·        Dahab Tesfanicael stove and solar applicants for its high integrated efficiency stove design

·        Ecology & Environment for their California Valley solar ranch

·        Mott MacDonald for its Majnoon biodiversity action plan

·        National Grid Grain LNG for reducing carbon emissions through collaboration

·        Sindicatum Sustainable Resources for Bangkok Kamphaeng Saen projects
