Name and Location
Energy-from-waste project, Teeside, UK.

Client
The project is a 40:40:20 joint venture between Sembcorp Industries, Sita UK and Itochu Corporation.

Project Description
The project involves the development of a new energy-from-waste facility at Wilton International, a 770 ha industrial site in Teeside. The facility will produce up to 49 MW of gross power or 190 t/h of steam using municipal and commercial waste. It will use up to 450 000 t/y of municipal waste, which would otherwise have gone to landfill, to produce sustainable power and steam.

The plant will reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 130 000 t/y, compared with landfilling an equivalent amount of waste.

A waste-transfer station will also be built in Knowsley, Meyerside, to transport waste by rail to the plant at Teeside. Both facilities will be developed under a build, own, operate and transfer arrangement with the Meyerside Recycling and Waste Authority for 30 years.

Value
£250-million, which will be funded through a long-term nonrecourse project finance loan, an equity bridge loan, shareholder loans and equity.

Duration
The plant and transfer station will be completed in 2016.
