Johannesburg-based process solutions design and development company GEA Process Engineering has strengthened its emission control unit with the appointment of new sales manager Kayimbi Mpanya.

The company is the representative of Germany-based emission control technology developer GEA Bischoff in South Africa. The company believes that Mpanya’s appointment demonstrates its commitment to providing top-level emission control systems throughout sub-Saharan Africa and worldwide.

Mpanya previously worked as a contract engineer before joining GEA Process Engineer- ing. “I was ready for a new challenge. I already knew the GEA name well and felt that environ- mental control was something important, par- ticularly in South Africa. We are responsible for our country and for what we leave for our children. I really felt that I could make a difference by working in the field of environ-mental protection with a strong company such as GEA behind me,” he point out.

Mpanya is facing a specific problem in South Africa. “The former name, ‘Lurgi’, was so well known in South Africa, it’s sometimes difficult for people to recognise the GEA Bischoff name. Everyone knows GEA for heat exchangers and cooling towers, but not so much for emission control. It is important for me to explain that GEA Bischoff is just a new name for an old friend. I think I’m getting there.”

GEA Bischoff – previously known as Lurgi Bischoff – is a company with close to 100 years of experience in the provision of emission control technology for the glass, iron and steel, cement, nonferrous and chemicals industries. As industry focuses increasingly on the need to protect the environment through reduced emissions, GEA Bischoff’s technology and expertise have become vitally important across all market sectors, the company says.

GEA Bischoff is part of the emission control strategic business unit within GEA Process Engineering, itself a part of the GEA Group.
