Consultations around the socioeconomic impact of the controversial e-tolls imposed on some highways in Gauteng were set to get under way in August.

Government, State-owned enterprises, organised labour, business, civil society and the public from across the “length and breadth” of Gauteng would, over the next few months, present their submissions to the Gauteng Advisory Panel, which was established by Premier David Makhura in July.

From August 26 to September 9, representations would be made by labour, business, civil society, information and knowledge institutions and transport organisations, after which public meetings would be held in Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and West Rand.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature would publish the details of the public meetings and a call for written submissions on August 31.

By early October 2014, the panel planned to meet with political parties represented in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

The final report and recommendations around the socioeconomic impact would be presented to Makhura by the end of November.
