Project Description
The Copperton project was selected as a preferred bidder in the Department of Energy’s fourth bidding window of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.

The project involves the construction of a 102 MW wind farm comprising 34 wind turbine generators, each with a 3 MW capacity. The wind farm will include a 132 kV substation that will connect directly to a 132 kV distribution line, owned by State-owned power utility Eskom.

Value
The project will entail an estimated at R2.06-billion investment.

Duration
Signing the power purchase agreement and starting of construction are expected by the first quarter of 2016, with the start of operations expected between late 2017 and early 2018.
