Project Description
The project is a multibillion-rand initiative, comprising an IDZ and a deep-water port at Port Elizabeth.

The initiative aims to position South Africa as a platform for global manufacturing and export through foreign and local investments.

Value
The IDZ has an overall pipeline of projects valued at about R140-billion.

Duration
Phased development of about 30 to 50 years.

Latest Developments
The CDC has reported that construction is booming in the IDZ.

The construction of the R130-mllion Vector Logistics facility is expected to be completed in May this year.

Other projects expected to be completed in 2015 include Afrox’s air separation unit (R300-million), which is expected to be commissioned next month, the R3.5-billion Dedisa peaking power plant, the R53-million construction of ID Logistics and Digistics Logistics expansion, valued at R32-million.

Investors about to become operational, as at June 2014:
First Automobile Works, Powerway and ITPSA.
