Johannesburg-based chemicals manufacturer Reba Chemicals attended this year’s Lephalale Mining Expo, hosted by Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE), to establish partnerships that can expand the company’s reach in the area.

Reba Chemicals MD Freddy Motau told Engineering News at the expo, which was held last month at the Mogol Club, in Lephalale, that the company earlier this year supplied industrial chemicals to a subcontractor which supplied the Medupi power station.

“The main aim of Reba Chemicals having attended this expo is to partner with Lephalale-based companies so that we can help those companies while they supply our products to the Lephalale area.

“The Lephalale area is growing rapidly, with the Medupi project being one of the biggest attractions, but it is also a coal mining area with significant potential for the use of our products and services,” he explained.

Motau said partnerships with other companies would entail Reba Chemicals providing technical and financial support for the smaller companies, while the companies, in turn, would market and sell Reba Chemicals’ products.

Reba Chemicals also aims to impart scarce chemical manufacturing skills to these companies.

Further, the company manufactures a range of products, including water-treatment chemicals, inorganic metal salts and industrial acids, at its manufacturing plant and warehouse in Chloorkop, Johannesburg.

The company was founded in 1982 and was bought by Motua in 2005. A Bachelor of Science graduate with a vast experience in chemical manufacturing, Motau said he saw great potential for the growth of the company when he took over.

Reba Chemicals employs 17 personnel and exports its products to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland and Mozambique.

Meanwhile, this year was the ninth of the yearly exhibitions that MTE has hosted in the area. The exhibition provides a platform for networking and interaction between suppliers and project managers in the Lephalale area.
