JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – TSX-listed Centerra Gold’s Kumtor openpit gold mine, in the Issyk Kulp province of Kyrgyzstan, has received extensions until December 31 of its permits for emissions into the atmosphere and waste disposal into the tailings pond.

The Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based company reconfirmed on Friday that the Kyrgyz Republic State Agency of Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) continued to review Kumtor's annual mine plan, during which, the SAEPF would not suspend the mine’s operations.

Centerra and Kumtor expected to continue discussions with the SAEPF to secure the approval of the 2015 annual mine plan.

“However, there can be no assurances that such approval will be received. The absence of such approval could require a suspension of project operations, which would have a material adverse impact on Centerra's future cash flow, earnings, results of operation and financial condition,” the gold mining company advised.

Centerra was focused on operating, developing, exploring and acquiring gold properties in Asia, Canada and other markets worldwide, and was currently the largest Western-based gold producer in Central Asia.
