Brown says Eskom to get permanent CEO by November
Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown said on Wednesday she hoped Cabinet would confirm the appointment of a permanent chief executive for Eskom by the end of October.
“I am hoping that the board will bring me a decision on either advertising or appointing formally the CE and that by the end of October I will be able to take it to Cabinet already,” Brown told Parliament’s portfolio committee on public enterprises.
“So I am hoping that by the first of November we will be able to say who.”
Brown added that she thought that under its current leadership Eskom had done well to tackle its maintenance backlog in such a manner that it did not have to resort to load-shedding in a month.
“They have done really well. The board under the leadership under Dr Ben Ngubane, remember he is also acting, and Brian Molefe as the CE, they have done really well. We have really pushed very hard . . . that is why we have been able to have 30 days without load-shedding.”
Molefe was seconded to Eskom from Transnet in April.
