Zambia’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is set to have a new and modern terminal by October this year, the Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation reported on Tuesday.

Zambia’s Minister of Works and Supply, Yamfwa Mukanga told the broadcaster that the terminal was part of the expansion works being conducted at the Airport.

Some of the developments that were being constructed include runways and auxiliary facilities around the airport such as shopping malls, hotels, a fire station and the rehabilitation of the existing terminal which would be dedicated to domestic flights.

Mukanga said the fire station was almost complete, adding that government was determined to ensure Zambians benefited from the infrastructure it was putting up.

Government was reported to be spending about $360-million on upgrades.

Zambia has four international airports, five airstrips and five secondary airfields that serve the domestic and international flights, with the main airport in Lusaka being the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Other smaller airports include Livingstone and Mfuwe, Ndola along with secondary airfields including Kasama, Kitwe, Chipata, Mongu, Mansa and Solwezi.

Zambia recently adopted an open sky policy along with current establishment of an air cargo hub to connect with the Southern African region.

Mukanga said the Zambian government was focused towards improving infrastructure at all airports.
