UL, a leading global safety science company, will present the 2019 UL Mark of Excellence Award during the HSBC Cape Town Sevens being held December 13-15 at Cape Town Stadium.

The UL Mark of Excellence Award honors a team, coach or player who exhibits excellence during the tournament and exemplifies the core values of World Rugby: integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline. UL’s global World Rugby partnership is rooted in these shared values between the two organizations.

Previous recipients of the award include: the Fédération Française de Rugby, the governing body for rugby union in France, Joe Ravouvou, a member of New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks, Danny Barrett, a member of the USA national rugby team, the Eagles and Gareth Baber, head coach of the Fiji national rugby team, the
Flying Fijians.

“UL is proud to partner globally with the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series,” said UL vice president and managing director for Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia Suresh Sugavanam. “World Rugby brings the highest level of integrity and competition to the sport and aligns with our global mission of working every day to make the world a safer, more sustainable place.”

World Rugby is committed to player welfare, promoting evidence-based initiatives to injury-prevention. The dedication to player safety aligns directly with UL’s mission: working for a safer world.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments featuring national sevens teams and this season serves as crucial build-up and preparation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  The series showcases elite-level matches between rugby nations and helps elevate rugby to an international audience.
