Transmission Backbone project, Mozambique.

Project Description
The project comprises the development of a national grid that will transmit 9 200 MW from northern Mozambique to the south and to Maputo.

The Transmission backbone will include a 400-MW high-voltage dc link, a parallel 765-kV high-voltage ac double-circuit system with several 765/400-kV and 765/220-kV substations, as well as several 765-kV and 400-kV static var compensators.

Excess power will be exported to Eskom in South Africa and the Southern Africa Power Pool, as well as connect the Electricidade de Moçzambique (EDM) networks.

Value
The project is estimated to cost SEK30-billion.

Duration
Construction is expected to take place between 2010 and 2015.

The prefeasibility study for the project has been completed.
