Project Description
The project proposes to establish a distribution transformer manufacturing and assembly plant in Kenya to serve the entire East African region – it will produce sufficient volumes to meet demand.

Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC) expects the demand for transformer equipment to surge as the country prepares to increase connectivity in rural areas, where at least 40% of the population is planned to have access to power by 2020.

In addition, the company is considering upgrading and expanding its network in the coming years at a cost of $500-million to help double per capita power consumption to around 300 kWh by 2014.
