Name and Location
Trans-Saharan gas pipeline (TSGP), Nigeria to Algeria.

Project Description
The TSGP is a planned natural gas pipeline, which will run from Warri, in Nigeria, through Niger to Hassi R’Mel, in Algeria. The almost 4 300-km-long pipeline is proposed under the New Partnership for Africa’s Development initiative to connect gas resources in Nigeria and Algeria and transport them to consumers along its route, from its terminal point on the Algeria coast to Europe.

The length of the pipeline will be around 1 300 km in Nigeria, 750 km in Niger and 2 200 km in Algeria.

En route to Europe, it will connect to the existing Trans-Mediterranean, Maghreb-Europe, Medgaz (which started operations in early 2011) and Galsi (expected to come on stream in 2014) gas pipelines.

The proposed pipeline is expected to transport some 30-billion cubic metres of gas a year.

Value
The project has an estimated capital cost of $13-billion, of which $10-billion is for the pipeline and $3-billion for the gathering facilities and associated infrastructure in Nigeria.

Duration
It is envisaged that the pipeline will start transporting gas in 2015.
