Project Description
The project involves the construction of a steam cycle power plant with an installed capacity of 650 MW, in Suez city, about 150 km east of Cairo.

The electricity will be evacuated from the plant to the power grid through a 220-kV network by rehabilitating the existing double circuit overhead transmission line and also through two additional underground cables, which will be implemented.

The project will unlock the country’s abundant gas reserves and, upon completion, will provide about 5,5% of the targeted increase in the installed capacity to reach 41 GW by 2017.

Latest Developments
The AfDB has approved a $550-million loan to help Egypt build the new power plant.The loan is by far the largest to be granted to the country for a single operation.
