Steloy Castings, which was founded in 1984, is a specialist foundry group based in South Africa, supplying static and centrifugally cast components for heat, wear, corrosion and abrasion resistance to a myriad of local and international customers. From its three foundry complexes, including two foundry operations and a specialist finishing operation located in Ekandustria, Bronkhorstspruit and one in Chamdor, Krugersdorp, it supplies high-integrity high- performance components in a wide range of materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel and super alloys.

The three divisions have a combined production capacity of more than 5 300 t/y.

Steloy Castings supplies a smorgasbord of critical components to a range of diverse industries, such as the petrochemicals, pumps and valves, steel, mining, glass, ferroalloys, power genera- tion and railways industries. Steloy Castings is also one of only a handful of foundries in the world capable of producing centrifugally spun cast tubes.

The company, which was established in response to a need for a specialist stainless steel foundry, has quality assurance systems that are ISO 9001:2008-compliant and certified by the South African Bureau of Standards (SANAS and RVA) and TÜV (Rheinland). In addition to ISO 9001:2008, Steloy is the first South African foundry to be awarded Pressure Equipment Directive (PED EC 97/23) accreditation for all plants– which enables us to certify cast components destined for pressure applications, as required by European Union countries.

Collectively, the group, which employs 400 people, has a combined floor space of some 24 500 m2, with its headquarters located at 4 Cobalt street, Ekandustria, Bronkhorstspruit, 1020, South Africa, about 50 km from Pretoria.

Growth was both organic and through acquisition. In 1994, Steloy acquired PD Foundries, a Johannesburg-based jobbing foundry, which manufactured iron and steel castings, and, in 2005, the Chamdor plant of Rely Metpro. Today, Steloy Castings ranks as one of the largest privately owned South African foundry groups, supplying over 220 different alloys to customers around the world.

To produce a wide range of castings in most ferrous material types and to the highest standards, Steloy Castings continually invests in additional equipment, infrastructure and technology to ensure a proactive approach to the changing requirements of the market.

Steloy Castings offers a full, one-stop foundry service right through from computer numerically controlled pattern making, solidification simulation, core making, moulding, melting, fettling, heat treatment, machining and nondestructive testing to certification. The company’s equipment enables the production of sand castings from 0.5 kg to 3 500 kg and centrifugally cast tubes from 40 kg to 2 200 kg. Tubes can be up to 830 mm in diameter and as long as 5 500 mm.
