Whether or not the creation of a ‘Broadband War Room’ will put paid to the legal dispute between Telecommunications and Postal Services Minister Siyabonga Cwele and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa over the auctioning of much-needed spectrum was far from clear at the time of writing. What is clear is that this stare-down needs to be resolved urgently in the interests of the country and economic growth, rather than narrow commercial ones.
