Soyo liquefied natural gas port dredging project, Angola
Name and Location
Soyo liquefied natural gas (LNG) port dredging project, Angola.
Project Description
The project involves the deepening and widening of the Soyo port's 4,5-km access channel and port basins by removing some 11-million cubic meters of sand and clay through the use of medium-sized hoppers. Activities envisaged to form part of the project will include a wide array of marine services, ranging from the installation and management of navigation aids to hydrographic and land surveying.
Previous land reclamation works for the LNG facility consisted of raising 125 ha of existing land on the north side of Kwanda island, and creating 65 ha of new land in the Congo river estuary.
This port expansion project is driven by a need to cater for larger vessels and future trade volumes.

The total contract value is estimated at €155-million. Boskalis has a 50% share in the contract.
