Name and Location
South Nemba auxiliary (SNX) project, off Angola.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of an offshore platform for oil and gas production, off the coast of Cabinda province, in Angola’s Nemba field. The SNX project comprises an unmanned, four-pile jacket, multideck facility that will be bridge-connected to the new platform.

The 62,5-m-long, 35-m-wide platform will weigh 18 758 t and is being installed to strengthen the processing capacity of the existing facility, which currently produces 100 000 bbl of crude oil and four-million cubic metres of natural gas a day.

Once installed, the facility will allow for an additional five-million cubic metres of natural gas to be produced daily.

The platform will include a flare boom, a helideck, an oil processing train, gas compression and dehydration equipment, electrical power generation and other associated equipment.

Value
The cost of the overall project has not been disclosed; however, the contract to build the platform is valued at $510-million.

Duration
The platform is scheduled to be delivered to the Nemba field in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Client
Chevron.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Daewoo Shipping & Marine Engineering (DSME) (engineering, procurement and construction) and Alliance Engineering, a division of the Wood Group and sub-contracted by DSME (design and engineering of the jacket and topsides facilities).

Latest Developments
South Korea’s DSME was awarded a contract valued at $510-million to build the SNX platform in November 2010. The company is expected to take responsibility for the designing, material purchases, installation and trial operation of the platform.

The company is currently building the platform at its shipyard on the southern Geoje island, in Okpo.
