Mining infrastructure systems company Becker Mining South Africa’s hydraulic rail benders, which have been developed for bending and forming rails on railway lines in heavy industrial and underground transport systems in mining applications, easily handle rail up to 40 kg/m.

These rail benders, most of which are standard equipment on many South African mines, are powered by 25 t/250 kN hydraulic cylinders and activated by two-stage hand pumps to cope efficiently in harsh operating conditions.

Becker Mining South Africa product manager Eugene Davids says the robust rail benders are manufactured locally at the company’s Bellambie Mining & Industrial facility, in Alrode, according to stringent quality and safety specifications.

For ease of maintenance, the pump and cylinder are detachable from the rail bender.

The main frame of the rail benders are cast and forged from ASTM-E487/78/110-grade steel and are fitted with specially designed handles for easy transportation. The back frame section, which provides the unit with stability, enhances portability and facilitates accurate alignment for faultless operation.

Extended Offering
Becker Mining’s range of hydraulic equipment also includes robust jacks, designed for safe and easy railcar and off-road equipment jacking applications.

There are three models of portable ratchet jacks available, with 5 t, 10 t and 20 t capacities and lift capacities between 330 mm and 457 mm.

Features include double lever sockets for jacking in confined spaces, multiple tooth pawls for additional strength and enhanced safety, and a large base diameter ensures a firm, dependable foundation. These ratchet jacks support the full rated capacity on the toe or cap. Adjustable spring links have been plated to resist corrosion.

Becker Super Jacks have a ratcheting screw jack design and low handle effort and have been developed to hold a load indefinitely. A positive shoulder stop feature enhances safety and ball bearings ensure smooth operation.

These jacks have a capacity range between 15 t and 50 t and a stroke range from 100 mm to 225 mm. This range – with a base diameter between 140 mm and 184 mm – offers a secure foundation.

This hydraulic equipment, with spares and accessories, is available nationally from Becker Mining South Africa’s extensive branch and distributor network. In addition, the company offers a full repair and maintenance service at its Alrode service workshops.
