A Greenpeace ‘Resist’ banner hanging from a construction crane behind the White House, in Washington DC, in late January. The protest arose after the administration of President Donald Trump invited TransCanada to reapply for its controversial Keystone XL project and issued a memorandum supporting completion of the Energy Transfer Partners Dakota Access Pipeline. However, the banner arguably reflects not only the ongoing divisions in the US since the surprise election of Trump in November, but also the likely approach that Trump opponents will take on a range of issues in the coming weeks, months and years.
