State-owned power utility Eskom corporate specialist Morris Maroga has been elected to serve for a second term as president and chairperson of the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW).

He has held various positions that involve management and leadership roles at Eskom and has been primarily involved in the boiler plant and pressure equipment sectors at various power stations, manufacturing workshops and construction sites.

Welding technology and nondestructive testing play a critical role in the maintenance and construction of power stations.

SAIW provides training programmes, consultancy and industry services in welding fabrication and related technologies. SAIW certification ensures that South Africa’s qualification and certification programme in the field of welding and related technologies is credible and matches international standards.
