Project Description
The project involves the construction of a fourth turbine-generator unit for NamPower's largest power plant.

The unit will add 92 MW to the existing three 82-MW units. The new unit will have an increased overall efficiency of 93,3% and a net head of 130,5 m.

The plant will account for about 80% of Namibia's yearly electricity production.

Value
The value of the project has not been stated but the contract for the supply of electromechanical equipment and penstocks is estimated to be worth about €16-million.

Duration
The unit is expected to be commercially operational in March 2012.

Alstom Hydro (a joint venture between Alstom and Bouygues) (electromechanical equipment and penstocks).

Latest Developments
Alstom Hydro, and its consortium partner Andritz Hydro, have been awarded a contract for the supply of electromechanical equipment and penstocks for the project.

The supply scope includes one generator set, an excitation system, a control and protection system, electrical auxiliary systems and connection to the existing plant. The consortium will be responsible for the turnkey installation, commissioning and testing of the new unit.
