Public hearings on energy utility Eskom’s Regulatory Clearing Account (RCA) application for the first year of the third multiyear price determination (MYPD 3) will take place between January 19 and February 4, 2016, after which the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) will announce its decision on the application on February 25, Eskom said on Tuesday.

This followed Tuesday’s closing date for stakeholder comments to Nersa on Eskom’s RCA application.

Eskom submitted its RCA for consideration by the regulator last month on the 10th of November. In terms of the MYPD methodology, Nersa awarded Eskom an “allowed revenue” that was intended to allow Eskom to cover operating costs and earn a reasonable return.

“Eskom has transparently declared the actual performance of its generation plants, its new build projects and performance of independent power producers, amongst others.

“Reasons for and motivations for variances from what was assumed by Nersa in its MYPD 3 decision for that year, have been provided in the submission document, which is published on Nersa’s website,” the parastatal said in a statement.
