There are no scheduled power blackouts planned despite increased demand for electricity, Eskom said on Tuesday.

"The cold and wet weather has resulted in increased demand for electricity but the power grid is stable," said spokesperson Andrew Etzinger.

"No loadshedding has been planned at the moment."

Earlier this month, a coal storage silo at the Majuba power station in Mpumalanga collapsed, resulting in widespread power cuts.

The silo held more than 10 000 t of coal and affected coal supplies to all six units at the power station.

An investigation into the collapsed silo has since been launched.
