The petrol price will remain unchanged in August, the Department of Energy said on Friday.

In July, the petrol price saw a 29-cent increase for 93 unleaded petrol (ULP) and lead replacement petrol (LRP), while 95 ULP and LRP increased by 31 cents per litre.

A litre of petrol will still cost motorists R14.33.

As of next Wednesday, Diesel 0.05% Sulphur will see a decrease of 5.620, cents while Diesel 0.005% Sulphur will decrease by 4.62 cents.

The price of Illuminating Paraffin (Wholesale) will decrease by 7 cents while that of Illuminating Paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 10 cents and the Maximum Retail Price for LPGAS will decrease by 12 cents per kilogram.

According to the department, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased during the period under review.

“The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The strengthening of the Rand against the US Dollar decreased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin,” it said.
