Nissan South Africa MD Mike Whitfield has been elected president of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) for 2016.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s Jeff Nemeth would support Whitfield as VP, as would Kia Motors South Africa’s Ray Levin – who represented manufacturers and importers/distributors – and immediate past president Toyota South Africa’s Johan van Zyl.

“Whitfield has a long association with our organisation and, over that time, has made a great contribution to promote the interests of the auto industry in South Africa,” Naamsa director Nico Vermeulen said in a statement on Monday.

Whitfield was also a former Naamsa VP.
