Ngong 2 wind power project, Kenya
Name and Location
Ngong 2 wind power project, Kenya.
Project Description
The project entails the construction of a wind power plant at Ngong Hills, about 30 km from Nairobi. It will consist of 16 turbines to generate 13,6 MW of wind power.
The Ngong wind farm forms part of an integrated programme to produce some 25,5 MW of wind energy at the Ngong Hills by 2012. Currently, some 5,1 MW of wind energy is being generated at the Ngong Hills, following the commissioning of the first wind farm in September 2010.
It is envisaged that the project will help boost Kenya’s electricity grid by 500 MW, in 2013, as part of an effort to tackle the continual power challenges in the country.

The contract is valued at €20-million.
Duration
The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.
Client
The Ministry of Energy, represented by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).
