Mechanical pipe joining systems producer Victaulic has launched the Style 905 Refuse-to-Fuse high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) coupling.

The new installation-ready coupling, launched locally in November, installs up to ten times faster than traditional fusing systems and is installed with an impact gun or a standard socket wrench, which requires no special training or regular certification.

Victaulic’s Style 905 Refuse-to-Fuse HDPE coupling is ideal for mining applications, including the transportation of slurry, tailings, underground pastefill, water and air. The coupling system can also be used to transport municipal water and can be applied to other industrial applications.

Today’s engineers demand real competitive advantages and that is exactly what is delivered through the Refuse-to-Fuse coupling – a robust product designed to work in some of the most testing environments,” says Victaulic regional manager for Africa Barry van Jaarsveld.

The new coupling is designed to join 2" to 6" and 50 mm to 150 mm HDPE pipes in seconds and eliminates the need for butt fusing. It also offers a visual confirmation of correct installation.

In addition, no heating or cooling time is required as the product can be installed on new, used or dirty pipes.

The coupling achieves this through its installation-ready technology, as it comes preassembled and is simply pushed onto a plain pipe end and joined by a second plain pipe end. Bolts and nuts are used to tighten the coupling, eliminating any disassembling requirements and loose parts that may drop or get lost.

Victaulic mechanical piping systems can be installed simply by removing two bolts from a coupling, making the system easier to maintain and more efficient. The coupling’s performance is enhanced by the elimination of fusing, threading, welding and flanging, as this significantly reduces leakages.

Since the coupling system requires no hot works for installations, pollution and energy use are reduced on-site, with safety risks also drastically reduced.
