Boiler manufacturer Dryden Combustion has introduced new coal-fired boilers that are said to employ the latest available technology for boiler control systems, optimising combustion efficiency, saving energy and reducing air and noise pollution.

“For over 20 years, there has only been one main supplier of new coal-fired boilers in South Africa. It is high time that customers have an alternative supplier, says Dryden Combustion MD Gordon Slater.

“The new Dryden Mk7 coal-fired boiler is a welcome alternative in an industry that has had, to date, limited options. “With outputs ranging from 1 000 kg/h to 21 000 kg/h, the Dryden Mk7 has operating pressures of up to 2 000 kPa,” highlights the company.

The Dryden Mk7 offers a fully wetback range of coal-fired boilers. It is a modern, efficient unit, with a three-pass shell boiler design, coal fired with a fully water-cooled combustion chamber. The twin fuel boilers all have separate ‘Walker type’ combustion chambers, allowing single fuel firing. A variety of models are available and are manufactured under the supervision of an approved third-party inspection authority, ensuring compliance with SANS 347:2012.

The Dryden Mk7 has a specially developed, high efficiency, low-power induced draught fan, with curved radially tipped blades for minimum fly ash build-up. The fan and impellor are statically and dynamically balanced for smooth operation in service, offering low fan speeds for longevity, adds Dryden.

The company states that it is the largest supplier of reconditioned coal-, oil-, gas- and wood-fired boilers in Southern Africa and that it is enjoying a record year. Dryden has supplied boilers to Ghana, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana and Malawi, as well as many boilers in South Africa.

Dryden also supplies Hamworthy and Unigas oil and gas burners and Ferroli hot-water and steam boilers. The locally manufactured range of oil-, gas- and coal-fired hot-water boilers are extremely reliable, states Dryden.

“There has been an upturn in the timber industry which has resulted in the sale of several large wood-fired boilers. “Our Spares and Repairs & Maintenance divisions continue to grow year on year. Good stock levels and providing a prompt and efficient service have contributed to this growth,” adds Slater.

Dryden is the South African partner of Bosch Tech, which manufactures ‘Loos’ oil- and gas-fired steam boilers and recently supplied a 30 bar, 20 000 kg/h twin flue gas-fired boiler to one of South Afica’s major corporations.

Dryden Combustion director Sue Kiley points out that the company has grown exponentially over the last ten years and is the largest supplier of reconditioned steam boilers in Southern Africa and services many blue-chip companies.

“Also, having recently employed a full-time Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority-registered training officer, the company can offer on-site training courses which cater for groups of up to ten students. Ten DVDs are shown during the theory portion of the course. Practical training is then undertaken on the client’s own boiler. On completion of this section, a final exam is written,” she concludes.
