MUR Industries
Established in 1990, East Rand-based MUR Industries designs, manufactures and repairs a range of induction heating equipment, with customers as far afield as the island nation of Mauritius.
The products that the ten-employee company manufactures, repairs or refurbishes include coils ranging in size from single-turn hardening coils to 10 t melting coils; melting heads and bodies; power hoses; hydraulic power packs and cylinders; switchgear; transformers for end-heating purposes; induction heating change-over switches; furnace formers with thicknesses of up to 4 mm; and customised heaters.
MUR Industries also repairs all types of induction heating chokes; installs, refurbishes and rebuilds cooling towers; and supplies capacitors and semiconductors.
Says a company spokesperson: “Our cast coils on heating equipment are proven to be the best in the market and are used in all types of heaters.”
Most of MUR Industries’ products are designed in-house. The control boards, feedback boards and display units are developed by the company’s electronics department specifically for use in Africa, while the metalworking department builds all the custom-designed cabinets and melting heads. Wiring and busbar work are completed by the electrical department.
Work undertaken by the company in recent months includes the manufacture of end heaters for Salchain; the rebuilding of a 800 kW tunnel heater for Transvaal Pressed Nuts, Bolts & Rivets; the design, supply and installation of a melting plant for Insimbi Alloy Supplies; and the manufacture of four 350 kW induction heaters for Knight Sales.
MUR Industries’ 1 239 m2 factory is located in the Delville Business Park, in Germiston.
Of the company’s employees, only one was hired less than ten years ago. “Our employees are, therefore, highly skilled,” concludes the company spokesperson.
