Mmusi Maimane leads jobs march in Johannesburg
Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane will on Wednesday lead a jobs march through the Johannesburg central business district, his party said in a statement.
The march will begin at the Westgate Transport Hub, Corner of Anderson Street and Pat Mbatha Busway.
The DA said: “South Africans are bearing the brunt of a leaderless economy, in which unemployment is growing day by day”.
The DA said it was the only political party to present South Africa and its people with a plan for growing the economy and creating jobs.
“Yesterday’s act of vandalism and destruction of the DA’s jobs billboard in Johannesburg illustrates this exact point,” said the DA, adding, it “will not be intimidated by this act of desperation, and will continue to fight for the 8.4-million South Africans, who are without the hope dignity and freedom which a job brings to them”.
The DA said since 2009, close to two million South Africans have joined the ranks of the jobless. “On Wednesday, we march for these South Africans.”
Maimane will be joined by, among other DA leaders, party chairperson, Athol Trollip MPL, Gauteng provincial leader, John Moodey, Johannesburg regional chairperson, Khume Ramulifho, Tshwane mayoral candidate, Solly Msimanga, Johannesburg mayoral candidate, Herman Mashaba, and national spokesperson, Refiloe Nt’sekhe.
