Malawi’s Ministry of Health is inviting bids for the construction of a district hospital in the country’s southern region.

The project will be implemented using debt finance that the Malawi government has secured from the Arab Bank for Economic Development (Badea) and the Saudi Fund.

The Ministry says adjudication of the bids for the Phalombe district hospital project will be conducted in line with Malawi’s public procurement legislation. Further information may be obtained from the Ministry of Health’s representative, Lilongwe-based architectural firm Norman & Dawbarn, in Lilongwe.

The Ministry adds that a prebid site visit has been scheduled for November 9 and that bid documents cost $300 a copy. The bids must be accompanied by an amount equivalent to 2% of the bid price in the currency of the bid.

“The provisions in the instructions to bidders are similar to those of Badea and the Saudi Fund Standard Bidding Documents for Procurement of Works,” it says, adding: “There shall be a margin of preference of 10% applicable to Arab, African or Arab-African joint venture contractors. A foreign company from an Arab or African country is eligible for the preference if it is registered in [the country of origin] and at least 51% of its shares are owned by the citizens of [that] country.”
