Project Description
The M1 is 50 years old, and in some parts even 60 years old, and requires a lot of rehabilitation.

The project involves the rehabilitation of the Federation and Oxford bridges, as well as the reconstruction of the 1 km of dual carriageway between Rockridge and Federation roads.

In addition, the entire 3 km existing stormwater drainage system will be replaced between Rockridge bridge and Federation road bridge on the freeway, as well as on Oxford and Federation roads below the freeway.

Latest Developments
The JRA unveiled the completion of the R140-million on October 3, saying it would progressively reopen the M1 freeway lanes from October 9.

Improvements to the M1 Oxford and Federation bridges  were initially scheduled to be completed in November 2016; however, unforeseen events, including geotechnical  complications, have delayed the project by one year.
