Engineering company Louis Berger has been appointed project manager for the modernisation of several stadiums in Yaoundé, Cameroon – the host city of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations men's soccer tournaments.

The project would entail the modernisation of two 1 000-seat training arenas, part of the multipurpose Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.

Louis Berger was also rehabilitating a 2 000-seat military arena located in Ngoa Ekelle, according to the standards of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Associations (FIFA), featuring improved playgrounds, new tribunes, changing rooms and lavatories.

As part of the contract's first phase, Louis Berger prepared architectural and engineering studies for the modernisation effort.

Cameroon's Ministry of Public Tenders approved the findings of studies for six of the project’s eight specific objectives. Based on the firm’s input, the client tendered the construction works. They would soon start under Louis Berger’s supervision.

“We are honoured to support Cameroon's infrastructure needs ahead of two of Africa's most prestigious sporting events. These modernisations will give Yaoundé world-class sports facilities befiting the top talent that will play there over the next four years,” said Louis Berger Africa director-general delegate Jacques Blanc.
