Joburg Water on Wednesday advised residents of Northriding not to drink tap water due to sewer contamination.

”Johannesburg Water suspects possible sewer contamination within the water network in parts of Northriding. We strongly advise residents residing in the area not to consume tap water until further notice. We are investigating this high priority issue and will advise residents when the network is stabilised,” the city’s water utility said in a statement.

The affected areas are within Aureole Street, Boundary Road, Spionkop Road and Olievenhoudt Street.

Joburg Water did not state what led to the tap water contamination.
