Intelligent data management across a company’s information technology environment is a key element supporting faster and more effective use of business data and new technologies and capabilities, such as Internet of Things (IoT) systems, which can involve thousands of different data-generating devices, as well as greater automation.

Business data management and availability multinational Veeam Middle East and Africa VP Gregg Petersen highlights that Veeam’s hyperavailability platform facilitates intelligent management of data in enterprises, including storage, recovery, security and availability involving complex environments consisting of multiple devices and data sources per user, as well as multiple public and private cloud systems.

“The plurality of the environments leads to data being at many different locations, such as on an employee’s laptop, tablet and cellphone, as well as with departments or business divisions. Yet, the data must be available for use in business processes and at increasingly greater speeds.”

Data is central to most company’s operations and the speed at which it can be accessed and used to serve clients has a direct impact on the businesses performance and/or on the customer experience.

Veeam’s Hyper-Availability Platform can intelligently manage all data regardless of platform or technology, and has been designed to assist in cloud migration and adoption, as well as preparing for the growing use of newer technologies, such as artificial intelligence, IoT, machine learning and blockchain.

“We have also launched our DataLabs service, which enables the use of replicated operations data for development and testing – for example, to test security resilience, recovery speed or to develop new business processes, applications and systems.

“This means that our enterprise customers can test patches on an exact copy of operational or production data to determine whether the patches are effective or whether they affect other processes without impacting the business’ operations.”

However, Petersen emphasises that the acme of data management is not only automated management but also its orchestration based on varied and changeable business uses.

The Veeam products also scan and ensure backups are clean of any malicious code before they are verified, encrypted, using two-key verification, and stored. Similarly, the company’s solutions help clients to recover from cyberattacks, denial-of-service attacks and ransomware attacks, as well as recover from disruptions caused by non-malicious events.

African Growth

Meanwhile, Petersen notes that Africa presents good growth prospects for the company, especially as its products have proven to be well suited to the demands across a range of industries, countries and operating conditions.

“While South Africa remains a hub for us, and we continue to do well in Southern African Development Community countries, including in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana, we are investing in our operations in the West African region.

“We are driving into these markets and continue to invest in our channel partners and resources. As Veeam, we are focused on emerging markets, including Africa, over the next five years. We have more than 300 000 clients across industries worldwide.”
