Automotive manufacturer Control Instruments Automotive (CI Auto-motive), a wholly owned subsidiary of the JSE-listed Control Instruments Group, aims to sell 10 000 units of the Vision X light range with its light-emitting diode (LED) technology by the end of this year.

Since the local launch of Vision X’s range of LED technology in June 2012, the company has been selling about 400 units a month.

“Once customers use Vision X products they do not use alter- native products,” states CI Automotive product manager Leonard Chester, adding that CI Automotive was appointed the sole distributor of technology solutions provider Vision X’s range in Southern Africa at the beginning of last year.

The Vision X range of industrial and mining LED lights comprises the Vision X Pitmaster MIL-PMX3040 LED light; the MIL-PMX3060 LED light, which is a direct replacement for 400 W to 500 W high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting; and the MIL-PMX6060 LED light, which is a direct replacement for 1 000 W HPS lighting.

The range has Prime Drive technology integrated into the LED circuitry, enabling prolonged product life, enhanced reliability and increased light output. It features a 70% reduction in power consumption, with a 30% increase in light output.

The Vision X range’s patented Prime Drive technology reduces the flickering of the LED light when its temperature rises above a certain limit, Chester explains. The Vision X range has a 50 000-hour product life, while the die-cast aluminum housing has an IP-68 rating.

The LED range also offers an 80% reduction in light pollution and each light fixture has built-in redundancy to eliminate unscheduled maintenance. The technology is also Restriction of Hazardous Substances compliant, containing no lead or mercury and requires no disposal of hazardous materials.

“All LED’s are energy efficient,” Chester points out, noting that the product not only has a much lower amp and produces double the light but also produces a higher quality of light, compared with standard HPS fixtures.

“Vision X is focused on taking critical factors in the industrial and mining sectors into account when developing its products,” Chester notes. The range, which the company started developing in 1997, offers increased safety, preventive maintenance and cost savings and is environment friendly.
