Global steel output up 3.2% y/y in June

Global steel production rose by 3.2% year-on-year to 141-million tonnes in June, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) has reported.

This brought global steel output for the six months to June 30 to 836-million tonnes, a 4.5% year-on-year increase.

South Africa’s production decreased by 15.9% to 458 000 t for June, compared with the 545 000 t produced in June 2016, while production for the six months was 4.1% lower year-on-year at 3.08-million tonnes.

Egypt’s steel production, meanwhile, increased by 40.9% year-on-year to 531 000 t in June, while its output for the six months was up 36.9% year-on-year to 2.27-million tonnes.
