Project Description
The project involves the design and construction of a 420 MW gas-powered combined-cycle thermal power plant at Sousse, located 140 km south of Tunis, on the Gulf of Hammamet, in northern Tunisia.

The power plant will be built within an existing power complex and it will feature a power block, gas and water treatment facilities, compressed air works and associated power equipment.

Value
The project is estimated at C$340-million.

Duration
Construction of the plant was expected to begin before the end of 2010, with completion expected within 30 months.

Societé Tunisienne de l'Electricite et du Gaz (Steg).

SNC-Lavalin and its partner, Ansaldo Energia (engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)).

Latest Developments
Tunisia’s Steg recently awarded the EPC contract to Canada’s SNC-Lavalin and Genoa-based Ansaldo Energia, a subsidiary of the Finmeccanica group, for the power plant at Sousse.

Under the terms of the long-term service agreement, Ansaldo Energia has been mandated to supply the equipment for the power block and is responsible for its maintenance for a period of 12 years.

SNC-Lavalin will be responsible for the engineering and the balance of the plant work, which includes construction of the power block, gas and water treatment facilities, compressed air works and the installation of power equipment.
