Fleet management product has record sales
Asset management and con- sumer solutions provider QCIC Asset Manage-ment Solutions reports that its Qic-Fleet offering, a fleet management and telemetry product, was the company’s best selling product last year.
Company marketing and new business development manager Brian McKenzie believes that Qic-Fleet will perform equally well this year, as fleet operators are searching for better ways to manage their fleet environment.
The Qic-Fleet system has a CAN-bus interface for the controller area network.
McKenzie tells Engineering News that the system, which was launched in July last year, offers companies improved fleet management control and significant cost savings “if implemented and managed correctly”.
He highlights that 90% of the system’s revenues comes from the local market, while 10% comes from companies operating in neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia.
“We hope to increase our foreign revenue earnings to 25% by the end of this year,” McKenzie adds.
The constantly rising input costs of running fleets, such as fuel and labour, are placing “intense operational pressures on companies”, he points out.
“Badly run transport companies are finding it progressively more difficult to stay afloat; however, those embracing technology and making a concerted effort to implement and manage new technologies accordingly, currently have the edge in the market place.”
Qic-Fleet System
McKenzie says the system includes the Garmin navigation device for routing and expected time-of-arrival scheduling, cold chain system monitoring and input/output data transfer to and from a computer, as well as ‘door open’ and ‘door closed’ alerts.
Qic-Fleet is also equipped with complete J1939 CAN-bus and J1708 CAN-bus integration, as well as power line communication.
“The programmable logic controller enables QCIC to send relevant data through the Qic-Fleet platform using a vehicle’s power harness or loom, ensuring easy installation and affording the end-user the opportunity to connect to various data pickup points on board the asset,” McKenzie explains.
He highlights that Qic-Fleet’s CAN-bus platform enables users to report on a fleet’s true speed and mileage, the fuel used for the selected period, fuel tank levels and vehicle abuse caused by excessive braking.
