The state of a country’s transport infrastructure is a key determinant of the performance and growth of its economy, as well as of the social and economic opportunities available to that country’s population. South Africa is investing substantially in its transport infrastructure, as the general impression is that the condition of road and rail infrastructure in the country has been in decline for several years.

Creamer Media’s Road and Rail 2014 report examines South Africa’s road and rail transport system, with particular focus on the size and state of the country’s road and rail network, the funding and maintenance of these respective networks, and the push to move road freight back onto rail.

This report is a summary of information published in Engineering News and Mining Weekly, as well as of information available in the public domain.

The report does not purport to provide analysis of market trends.
