Compression glands made from engineering plastic are used for appliances and instrumentation in a wide range of applications and industries, from sewerage and chemical plants to abattoirs.

Engineering plastics are seen as tough plastics and have better mechanical and thermal properties than commodity plastic materials such as polypropylene, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

The Tufflon compression gland from Pratley also has an IP68 seal which helps to protect the gland from dust and makes it waterproof for immersion up to 2 m.

The compression gland can be adapted for use with flat twin and earth cables by replacing the standard compression bush supplied with a special adaptor bush.

The cable gland is SABS-approved, and complies with SANS 60529 for an IP68 rating.

The compression gland is chemical resistant, making it suitable for harsh operating environments.

The non-metallic compression cable glands are manufactured from engineering plastic and are different to PVC cable glands, which can be prone to ‘thread jumping’.

The compression glands form part of Pratley Electrical’s electrical cable gland and junction box range for both normal and hazardous locations. They are available in various sizes in black, grey or white.

The manufacturer also provides free cable-gland training to advance practical and theoretical knowledge of learners, electrical artisans and engineers. The course highlights the importance of correct cable termination and electrical product selection.
