Mpumalanga-based armature winding specialist Mokse Engineering Enterprises has earned engineering consultants and equipment supplier SKF’s highly respected Rebuilder: Electric Motors Certification following a stringent audit in September 2016.

Mokse Engineering Enterprises explains that electric motors are critical equipment in any manufacturing or processing industry.

The company mentions that substandard motor repair or rebuild is one of a number of factors that can lead to premature failure resulting in costly downtime for end-users.

“Recognising the need to enhance the reliability of motors, SKF introduced its Certified Rebuilder: Electric Motors Programme in Q4 2006, with the objective of improving motor repair effectiveness to extend mean time between failures (MTBF) and improve plant availability,” Mokse Engineering Enterprises mentions.

The programme is audited every alternate year and presents a three-way partnership between the electric motor rebuilder, SKF’s authorised distributor and SKF.

Mokse Engineering is an approved rebuilder and supplier of electric motor brands up to 450 kW. The company is also a CX 0719 certified flameproof rebuilder and its 600 m2 cutting-edge facility is equipped to carry out repairs on pumps, fans, welding machines and generators.

“Quality remains our primary goal when carrying out our core business of repairing and supplying electrical equipment,” states Mokse Engineering managing member Christopher Hubball.

He adds that the company successfully combines old-school values with modern technology which ensures quality in the products, procedures and customer service.

Moreover, he notes that living by the South African National Standards-recognised ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System code, Mokse Engineering has built a solid reputation with its customers, including power utilities and leading steel processors who consider the company a high-quality outfit.

“They trust us with their strategic and critical motors because they are rest assured in the knowledge that we will pull out all the stops to find a quality solution,” he says.

Hubball points out that, in line with the company’s pursuit for high quality, it associates only with high-quality brands like SKF and uses only the best equipment available on the market. He adds that the company has been using SKF tooling, as well as a bearing heater, a bearing puller and tooling with demagnetising, as it is fundamental to the company’s quality of workmanship.

Further, Mokse Engineering mentions that it has made large investments in high-tech equipment, which includes a fully computerised vacuum pressure impregnation plant with wireless report printing, a professional winding and balancing machine, a balancing and vibration analyser and burn-off ovens.

“In addition to our complete flameproof facility, we also have a dedicated test facility for armature winding and we are also equipped to do load and pump testing. The company’s services also extend to nondestructive testing, and field-service work including on-site balancing,” Hubball comments.

He adds that the company has the capabilities to balance soft and hard bearings to extremely fine measurements. Mokse recently installed an in-house designed and developed shot and sandblasting facility.

SKF Southern Africa distribution development manager Anton Theunissen congratulates the Mokse team on attaining this certification, which he says bears testament to the uncompromising quality that the company stands for and adheres to.

He adds that the stringent criteria stretched to every last detail, even down to the lighting quality in the workplace which was tested with a light meter.

According to Hubball, the auditor was meticulous and thorough, monitoring every aspect of the company’s facility.

Moreover, he points out that the audit makes the company stronger and enables it to advance by continuously upgrading facilities, improving service to customers, as well as by developing the staff’s skill sets.

“The certification has cemented our objective to be positioned as a preferred armature winder in Mpumalanga and one of the best in the industry,” Hubball concludes.
