South Africa-based process control instrumentation manufacturer and distributor Instrotech now sells UK-based sensor solutions manufacturer Monitran’s MTN/5000, which Monitran introduced to the market in September last year.

“Recently, Monitran started focusing on providing not only single products but also complete solutions. The MTN/5000 is a complete monitoring system with an aptitude solution that can be added onto it. It is a microcontroller-based vibration monitoring and logging system for viewing the health of plant and equipment,” says Instrotech technical director Pieter Deysel.

The MTN/5000 can be used to monitor vibration changes in equipment and any sensor-based changes, such as temperature, pressure and voltage, or current readings, he adds.

The base display and monitoring unit features 4 mA to 20 mA input for velocity, while additional options include a signal converter for mV/g input for acceleration and velocity display. Other options include Ethernet, Modbus connectivity and temperature measurement using any of the Monitran duel output sensors.

The MTN/5000 is housed in an extruded aluminium enclosure and features a 3.5” TFT touch screen with a high performance ARM Cortex-M3 processor. The easy-to-navigate menu enables users to set data sampling periods of up to a million bytes per second.

The system boasts various ranges and accuracy levels, as well as vibration threshold levels, on a channel-by-channel basis or across 12 channels. In addition, the system has 12 digital input/output channels that can be used for multiple alarms, or a communication channel for integration into other systems.

The system is made to order and, in addition to specifying how many input channels the MTN/5000 should have, the user can request front-panel customisation that can, for example, include asset numbering or company branding.

Thermal Imaging
Since 2013, Instrotech has been the exclusive Southern Africa distributor of Germany-based manufacturer Optris’s products, which now offers thermal- imaging solutions.

“With all the instrumentation and control product offerings over the years, this is the first time that we can offer noncontact temperature measurement and thermal-imaging solutions,” Deysel explains.

As part of the exclusive distributorship agreement, Instrotech offers Optris’s range of infrared thermo- meters, pyrometers, cameras, thermal imagers and software, which Instrotech has already installed at various companies across South Africa.
