Cabinet expects to get a report on the ANC’s internal investigation into allegations that the Gupta family are influencing government decisions within a fortnight, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said on Friday.

“There is a process taking place from the ANC’s side,” Radebe replied when asked at a post-Cabinet briefing whether ministers had discussed the controversy that has been shaking government for weeks.

“Within the next Cabinet meeting we will get a proper report on that,” he added.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe announced last month that the ruling party would probe claims that the wealthy Gupta brothers were influencing executive decisions after Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas went on record to say that they had offered him the post of finance minister last year.

Opposition parties have said an internal investigation was inadequate given the gravity of the claims and called for a criminal probe.
