Name and Location
Biofuel power station, Kèbila, Mali.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a biofuel power plant, powered with jatropha oil, in the Kèbila district, in southern Mali. The facility is expected to generate electricity for some 150 families.

The 84-ha district of Kèbila is dedicated to the production of the jatropha oil, which is still inadequate for an area where an extraction unit of jatropha oil will soon be built. This transformation will require further plantations on a 1 500-ha site for the plant.

The project is estimated at $274,4-million.

Duration
The project is scheduled to start in February 2011.

Client
Ministère de l'Environnement et de l'Assainissement.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Mali-Folkecenter & Partners (finance).

Latest Developments
The Malian Minister of Environment, Tiemoko Sangare, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new biofuel power station.
