Aerospace engineering and components service provider Able Aerospace Services, a subsidiary of Textron Aviation, earned certification by civil aviation authority the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) as an Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) in April.

The recognition expands Able Aerospace Services’ broad certification platform, which includes airworthiness recognition from across the globe.

The JCAB-AMO certification, which is issued by Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, allows Able to perform repairs or alterations on aircraft components, including rotors, transmissions, and mechanical and electrical accessories, as well as major parts for JCAB-licensed operators.

“This certification underscores our positive working relationship with the Japanese aviation industry and its trust in our capabilities. We are honoured by the achievement and look forward to putting this certification to work for the benefit of the Japanese and global aerospace markets,” says Able Aerospace Services CEO Lee Benson.

“This was a rigorous two-year project for Able, but well worth the investment,” says Able Aerospace Services VP Mark McNatt, adding that it is a stamp of approval for Able’s designated engineering representative repairs, approved replacement parts and overall maintenance and repair operation. Ultimately, it offers Able an exciting new avenue where it can apply its extensive technical expertise that spans more than three decades of service to the aerospace industry.

From its headquarters and maintenance facilities at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, in Mesa, Arizona, Able Aerospace Services offers Federal Aviation Administration-approved component repair and overhaul, and approved replacement parts solutions to commercial and military aviation fleets in more than 60 countries globally. Since its inception, Able has grown substantially. The company now has 500 employees undertaking thousands of approved repairs and boasts some of the world’s largest exchange inventories.

Able Aerospace Services operates from a broad platform of airworthiness certifications from entities including the US Federal Aviation Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the Thailand Department of Civil Aviation, National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil and the Brazilian Navy.
