Zuma motion of no confidence about jobless South Africans – Maimane
The motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma is about jobless South Africans, Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane said on Tuesday.
Parliament is set to debate the motion for the second time in less than a year on Tuesday afternoon.
The motion was brought by the DA, following Zuma's decision to change finance ministers in December.
Maimane said South Africans demanded that Zuma be taken to task for his reckless handling of the economy.
"It has become common cause that under Jacob Zuma’s leadership, our country is spiralling downward – and doing so at an alarmingly fast rate.
"With President Zuma at the head of our economy, the hope of a better life for all South Africans will never become a reality," he said.
He said a motion of no confidence was the best mechanism to ensure that President Zuma was fired, once and for all.
The African National Congress earlier on Tuesday said they would use the motion to reaffirm their support for the president.
Spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said Zuma had the full support of the party.
In March 2015, the DA's motion was defeated with ease by the ruling party.
Despite opposition MPs labelling Zuma a "thief" and a runaway leader, a total of 221 MPs voted against it, 113 supported it, and eight chose to abstain.
